Storyboard Text

  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Speech
  • There's a lot of ugly things in this world, son. I wish I could keep them all away from you. That's never possible.
  • Thoughts
  • It's a clear sign of self defense... I'll run down to the office...
  • Horton Foote
  • Actions
  • In the name of God, do your duty. In the name of God, believe Tom Robinson.
  • This shows the reader that Atticus is very loving, yet realistic. He knows that things in life won't always go his way, and he's prepared for it.
  • Effect on others
  • Certainly, son. Cal, will you please bring in the syrup dish?
  • He jumps to conclusions very quickly, without knowing all of the information. Whereas he is smart, he doesn't always think of all of the possibilities.
  • Overall, Atticus is a very strong and loving character. Throughout the story, he loves and cares for many people.
  • This shows that he is very bold and selfless. He isn't afraid to defend the weaker party, and he defends them well.
  • By calling Walter "son," he's showing us that he cares. The syrup with dinner also shows kindness, because Atticus knew that syrup isn't something Walter can have very much.
