The Third Crusade

King Richard I was told there was a new Muslim leader in Jerusalem. The King decided to fight for the Holy Land
King Richard decided to team up with the other Christian countries, France and Germany, in a fight for their Holy Land. (Germany's leader Fredric Barbarossa drowned on the journey).
The Christians attacked and took over Acre, (the city where they landed). King Richard and King Phillip of France had an argument, this caused the French to go home.
The English travelled to Jerusalem to fight Saladin, (the new ruler of the Muslims).
Saladin's army defeated Richards. King Richard and Saladin made a truce, and Saladin let him go.
Richard changed into peasants clothing to disguise himself as he went through France, but they caught him. They demanded a ransom. King Richard the Lionheart was never seen back in England again.
