  • Alexander Hamilton was the Secretary of the Treasury. He had many duties.
  • One of the biggest challenges he had was paying off the national debt from the Revolutionary War
  • Besides national debt, there was also state debt and many other factors to creating the new nation.
  • Federalists, antifederalists, southerners, and northerners argued about various different topics.
  • But what about national debt?
  • There shall be no bondholders!
  • They argued about bonds, bondholders and speculators.
  • They argued about how to pay state debt, not just national debt.
  • But what about the other states?
  • Virginia does not have state debt!
  • They also argued about how strong the goverment was to be.
  • Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were very argumentative too.
