  • After the first super computers were made, scientists and engineers were trying to find a way to create a site that allowed communication through the web. By 1979, a site called UseNet allowed access to the internet, and in 1997, the first recognisable social media site, Six Degrees was created.
  • Soon, social media was becoming increasingly popular, with sites such as MySpace and LinkedIn being used by millions of people. By 2005, YouTube was released, enabling users to communicate through videos.
