  • The 13th amendment prohibited slavery in the US and all territories belonging to the US
  • President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation as an executive order but in order for it to stay it had to become an amendment.
  • This amendment affected the southerners because that was where slavery was most prevalent
  • The 13th amendment did not affect the North very much because slavery was not common
  • Slaves became free and no longer were entitled to their assigned work
  • Wake up! We are free! No more cotton!
  • Many slaves didn't know anything other than slavery so they didn't know where to go as freedmen
  • Where do we go now?
  • Freedmen began looking for work anywhere they could.
