  • In the state of Georgia, 1795
  • 10% stock for cheaper land?
  • Investors
  • Georgia Legislaturerepresentative
  • Deal! $0.015 per acre.
  • Can I get some land?
  • Fletcher
  • Peck the Investor
  • Yes! 13,000 acres for $3,000
  • One year later, after elections.
  • We need to enforce an act to get back the land from the investors
  • New Georgia Legislature representatives
  • Yes! The transaction was illegal!
  • We must respond to the public outcry!
  • New Georgia Legislature representative
  • The land Peck sold you was illegal obtained. With the new act, your land is now being taken away
  • That's it! I'm suing Peck. He had no legal right to sell that land!
  • Fletcher
  • After reviewing the case, the judge makes his decision.
  • Fletcher
  • Supreme Court Judge
  • Peck
  • I hereby find Georgia's act to take away the land is unconstitutional, even if the land was illegally bought
  • Implication: Through the Contract Clause of the Constitution, a deal for private land cannot be repealed after it is made. This would limit government control over land. And yes, I am a cat. A TALKING cat.Meow!
