Debbie and Maureen had been friends forever and it seemed as if they were inseparable. They loved hanging out together and did all the time.
Debbie felt sad, alone, like she had just lost the person she was closest to. Her life long friend, Maureen, had gotten another friend named Glenna. Debbie felt like she was being replaced as she sat alone while they rode rides together.
After leaving the carnival they got into the car and Debbie sat up front alone while the other girls sat together in the back and joked around the whole ride. They talked a lot but one thing lit up excitement in Debbie.
The news that she thought that she had heard that excited her now pained and upset her. Glenna and her mother were talking about how exited they were for the vacation. Debbie was thrilled to have some time alone with Maureen. Then she put it together when Maureen started taking. Maureen was going with them!!!
She asked to leave the car and Maureen could tell something was wrong so she followed behind. This action of Maureen comforted Debbie because this let her know that she still cares about her. She walked to a river and they sat down together and had a conversation.
They talked for a while about many things. Debbie told Maureen that she was getting the feeling that she like Glenna more than her. Maureen told her that they were always friends and always would be but she felt like if Debbie would get to know Glenna they could be friends. Debbie wasn't rude but she did seem a bit disappointed when she realized Maureen wasn't just going to drop Glenna. We don't know how things worked out but I suspect that they are now a group of life long friends.
