  • After signing the Constitution in 1787, a debate grew between supporters and those who opposed it.
  • Do you promise me and everyone else that the constitution will protect our rights as citizens, and our freedoms ?

  • On the pro-Constitution side are the 85 essays known as the Federalists Papers. On the anti-Constitution side Federal Farmer. Theses collections of essays were geared to sway the vote of the states.

  • Well known Federalists were Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams and richard Henry Lee were notable Anti-Federalists.
  • Before the Constitution would be implemented, Article VII, which reads that at least 9 states must vote in favor,must occur. Also, many states wanted a Bill of Rights added.
  • It took two years for all 13 states to ratify the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is very important and to this day is a great symbol of the freedoms given in the United States of America.
