Easter Island Comic for the collapse

Storyboard Text

  • Many people have wondered about the collapse of the Easter Island civilization. Though it isn't completely known, many theories have been developed over the years concerning the collapse of this civilization which happened sometime around the 17th centry.
  • One major cause for the collape was deforestation caused by the people who inhabited the island. Trees were used for food, shelter, fire, and tools but dissapered becuase of the overuse.
  • Why must we cut down so many trees we will surely run out!
  • We have no choice we need these trees to survive, it must be done. Also, this is only ONE tree is isn't a big deal.
  • Another popular theory for the collapse was the introduction of rats via the Europeans. These rats rapidly multiplied and ate/destroyed the vegetation.
  • We must exterminate these rats, they are destroying our food source!
  • Overpopulation was also a major factor as there became to many people for Easter Island to support resource wise.
  • Did we cause this? Could we have used all our resources?
  • Another major factor for this collapse was the over-exploitation of resources as many plants and animals went extinct because of this reason.
  • Where has all the food gone?
  • For that matter, where did all the animals and plants go? Where did the trees go?
  • With this lack of water, I can produce and food and my crops have started to die. When will this ever end.
  • Drought or lack of water was also a major factor in the collapse.
