  • You are acquitted. Case closed.
  • My first trip to the zoo. Oh, boy, oh, boy
  • You're failing this class right now, if you come up with a good semester theme, I'll pass you with a C grade."
  • You get back into your car or you'll get split.
  • "Ponyboy, listen, don't get tough. You're not like the rest of us and don't try to be."
  • Ponyboy went  to the hearing on the following day after he talked to Randy. In the condition Pony was in, the judge decides to only ask about his home life. Randy and Cherry testify  that Johnny killed Bob only in self-defense. Then the judge acquits Ponyboy and sent him home with his brothers.
  •
  • "We're all we have left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything. If we don't have each other, we don't have anything. If you don't have anything, you end up like Dallas...and I don't mean dead, either. I mean like he was before. And that's worse than dead. Please"—he wiped his eyes on his arm—"don't fight anymore."
  • From what Pony has been through, his grades slipped and his English teacher, Mr. Syme,  came to talk to him about it. He then gives Pony a deal to pass with a C grade only if he can write a good final theme paper for the semester.
  •     Ponyboy Curtis When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.
  • It was worth saving thoes kids Staygold ponyboy staygold
  • from Johnny
  • During lunch that same with Steve and Two-Bit, three socs came by to confront and accuse Pony for killing Bob. Without fear or anger, Pony breaks the glass, soda bottle and threatens them until they back off. Soon enough they leave and Two-Bit warns Pony not to be so tough like the rest of the gang. Afterwards Pony picks up the broken glass stating he doesn't want anyone to get a flat tire.
  • In the evening, Pony and his brothers had a normal dinner but Pony realized how Soda wasn't eating as much as he always did but laid off since Darry didn't seem to recognize. Soon Darry and Pony got into a fuzz about Pony's grades and soon Soda got frustrated and  ran out the door.  Once Pony got a hold of Soda, he stopped to tell them about how Sandy returned his letter unopened, also about how he is tired of Pony and Darry fighting.
  • Once they all got back home, Pony opened up the copy of Gone with the wind  and found a letter from Johnny while trying to write his essay. In the  letter, Johnny urges Pony to Stay Gold (keep watching sunsets and appreciate the world as if it were new). Suddenly, Pony realizes his essay would be about greaser and their point of view so they wouldn't be judged so quickly and for people like Dally to understand the beauty in the world.
