Storyboard Text

  • peasants had to pay super high taxes even when they were in poverty (due to having to pay taxes to their lords, clergy, and the king), while the nobles and clergy didn't have to pay at all even when the peasants did all the work.
  • We have no money or food to pay taxes!
  • Why should we have to pay when we work hard, while the nobles barley work and don't pay taxes
  • Since the peasants had no money to pay taxes they were usually in debt, and wanted the king to lower taxes. The king ignored the requests and spent all his money trying to fun the American Revolution. Since the king was no longer receiving money from taxes, he started taxing the nobles. They didn't like this and sided with the unhappy peasants.
  • Tax Everybody!
  • I will represent the nobles
  • Eventually, the French people got tired of the king and came together to form the Estates-General in 1789 to come up with ideas of what to do. This was made up of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd estate.
  • I will represent the clergy
  • I will represent the peasants
  • The estates general voted by estates, since the 1st and 2nd were the wealthy ones they normally sided with each other, making the voted unfair. With 6 weeks without progress, 3rd estate made their own assembly.
  • too bad, two against one
  • not fair!
  • The third estate is unhappy with the voting, so they came together and formed the National Assembly of France. They declared all current laws to be illegal, and wanted to make more fair laws to get France out of its economic crisis.
  • lets start over, all current laws are illegal and should be abolished!
  • We will make better laws that will help France's economy
