King Gilgamesh was very mean to his people. He was 1/3 man and 2/3 god. Gilgamesh prayed to the gods, and answering his prayers, they created Enkidu.
A hunter spotted Enkidu 3 days in a row, so he took him to meet King Gilgamesh. At first, Enkidu and Gilgamesh did not like each other at all.
Then, after Gilgamesh challenged Enkidu to a fight, they became best friends. They killed Humbaba, the demon that guards the cedar forest, and The Bull of Heaven, who Ishtar used to try and destroy their city.
But then, Enkidu got sick as a punishment from the gods for killing the bull. They forgave Gilgamesh because he was part god, but Enkidu was told he must die.
Gilgamesh was very sad , and he realized he would have to die too, so he started searching for a way to become immortal. He found a couple who had been granted eternal life, but they said he would have to find a plant at the bottom of the ocean, but that got stolen by a snake.
Gilgamesh finally realized searching for eternal life was useless, because he could become immortal if he left behind a great civilization.
