Storyboard Text

  • Maybe we should go home. Scout, Atticus might make Calpurnia hit us. Dill, you've already gotten into too much trouble this summer. We should leave him alone and return to our house.
  • Sheriff Tate went to Atticus Finch's house and told Atticus that Tom Robinson was going to be moved to the county jail before Robinson's trial. The sheriff also warned Atticus that a lynch mob might be formed to harm Robinson.
  • At approximately ten o'clock that night, Jem, Scout, and Dill snuck out of the house and followed Atticus to the center of Maycomb.
  • No!
  • Go home!
  • He is..
  • When the trio arrived at the jail, they spotted Atticus. The father of Scout and Jem was reading in front of the door to the jail, and Jem told Scout and Dill to leave Atticus alone.
  • I got your back, Atticus.
  • Are they gone?
  • The trio watched as a mob of men, led by Walter Cunningham, arrived at the jail and began to threaten Atticus.
  • We've got a gun, Atticus! Get out of our way or we will beat up you and Robinson!
  • Scout ran up to Atticus and the mob. When she recognized Walter Cunningham, the father of her classmate, she began talking as if she and Cunningham were old friends.
  • Hey, Mr. Cunningham!
  • After Scout talked to the mob, the mob decided to leave, and Atticus and Tom were safe. As the remaining four people left the jail, Atticus did not scold the children for disobeying him. In fact, Atticus showed pride towards Jem because Jem made a brave stand.
