Lennnie and George are first being introduced to the story. It is recognized that Lennie is mentally disabled however, George calls him discouraging names that can lower his confidence. (1-4)
Thank you for saving me George!
George goes over with Lennie what they are going to say to the boss once they get there. George does not want Lennie to mess anything up. George really wants this job. (21)
Crooks worrying Lennie
What if George doesn't come back? He is probably in the town drinking right now. What if he never comes back for you?
George was recalling why they needed a new job and why Lennie made them go into hiding. Lennie pulled on a girl's dress and it made him seem like he was raping her. He did not know any better and this caused them to hide in irrigation camps all day. George did not want Lennie to be caught by the men who did not understand their situation. (7)
George kills Lennie
Why would I be mad at you? Think about the ranch and the rabbits.
George tells the other workers about the time he tricked Lennie into almost drowning in the river. He felt really bad because Lennie did not remember that George did it and was thanking George for saving him. George was extremely cruel to Lennie for no reason. George felt terrible for this, and this is the reason why he does not want anyone to mess with Lennie anymore. (40)
Crooks was telling Lennie about why he has to be seperated from everyone and why he is treated unfairly than everyone. It it because of the color of his skin, but Lennie still does not understand. (82)
Lennie accidentily shook Curley's wife until her neck snapped. He murdered her and no one will listen to what happened. George did not want a crowd of people chasing after him to shoot him, so George shot Lennie in the back of the head. He wanted to prevent Lennie from being scared and a mob trying to kill him right before he died. (106)
