  • The anagen phase is the growth phase where hair is manufactured in the hair follicle.  The average growth for healthy scalp hair is about 1/2 inch a month.  About 90% of hair is in this phase at any given time.  The anagen phase typically lasts 5 years but can sometimes last longer.

  • Anagen Phase
  • This is the brief transition period between the growth phases of a hair phollicle.  During this phase, the follicle canal shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla. Less than 1% of hair is in this phase at any given time.  This phase lasts one to two weeks.
  • Catagen Phase
  • This is the final resting phase of the hair cycle. This cycle lasts until the hair is fully shed.  The hair may stay until the next anogen phase.  Little less than 10% of hair is in this phase at any given time.  This phase lasts about 3-6 months.  the growth cycle repeats itself every 4-5 years.
