Hello, my name is John Cabot. I am from Naples, Italy. I was born around 1450. I sailed from 1497- 1499. I was the second person to sail to "the New World'' now known as North America.
King Henry VII of England granted me the right to seek islands and countries. May 1497, I embarked on my ship, the Matthew, to explore a sea route to the Indies and China. In June 1497, I reached the New World. The landing spot is disputed between Cape Breton Island or Labrador, what is now Canada.
In July 1498, I assembled a fleet of 5 ships and 300 men for a second expedition. While on our way back to the New World, I lost one of my ships. We had to send it to Ireland to get fixed. The rest of the ships continued on. Due to bad weather and icebergs, my fleet headed South along the cost of Greenland towards Nova Scotia and New England. We continued back to England.
