Osiris reigned over the land and everything was good. There was no death or war. He taught the people about the arts, plants, and Gods. He loved Isis as his wife (even though she was once his sister).
In his desert, Seth, Osiris' brother, was angry at him because he hated all plants growing in the land. He tried to destroy Osiris many times, but Isis was always watching over. So, Seth measured Osiris' shadow to make a chest.
He hosted a banquet and invited all the children of the Earth and the Sky. He brought the wooden chest to the banquet, and everyone admired it. Seth said whoever's body fit most closely to the chest could keep it.
Osiris took off his crown and laid himself in the chest, which he fit perfectly in. Seth had his men shut the lid to the chest and hammer nails into it, trapping Osiris inside. They ran with it out of the banquet hall.
Isis, Nephthys, and Thout ran after the men who ran off with the chest, following their tracks, but it got dark and it was hard to follow them. The men threw the chest into a river, and it was carried into the sea.
When it was day again, Isis followed the tracks along the river. She eventually crossed into the land of Byblos, searching for Osiris in the chest, which was wrapped within the branches of a tree after washing up off of the sea.
