  • Causes of the Revolution
  • This isn't Fair!
  • Taxes are now raised by 30 percent!
  • I don't have any Money.
  • Estates General
  • You should tax the 1 st and 2nd estate.
  • We need money. How do you feel about raising taxes?
  • That is a fantastic idea, as long as we aren't taxed.
  • Tennis Court Oath
  • We won't leave until the constitution is equal!
  • King Louis XVI- King of France that continued defict spending, or spending more money than he had. King was throwing away money and leaving France in debt.Only the 3rd estate was being taxed. The 1st and second estate fought having to pay taxes.  Gov tries to fix the debt by taxing 3rd estate further.  
  • Storming of Bastille
  • Jacques Necker- a financial expert that was released for trying to tax 1st and 2nd estate .1st Estate Clergy - 2nd Estate Nobles - 3rd Estate population. Louis XVI summoned Estates General, a legislature that estates get 1 vote, to deal with the debt. Each Estate prepared Grievances in Cahiers, or notebooks. 1st and 2nd would always out vote 3rd.
  • The Revolution Begins
  • 3rd estate was tired of being outvoted .Reps of 3rd estate declared themselves National Assembly. They went to a nearby tennis court when they were locked out of their building and made an oath to never separate until they establish a just constitution. 
  • Bastille- an old medieval prison was rumored to be where the king would go to suppress the National Assembly.  To stop this the French Stormed Bastille looking for weapons. They took the building apart brick by Brick. The Fall of Bastille is marked on July 14th, 1789 and it became a symbol of triumph over medieval times.
  • Take it down Brick by Brick!
  • The immediate cause of the French Revolution was the Storming of Bastille. In the beginning, the mobs of French people were chaotic and acted upon fear and hatred. Great fear spread throughout 1st and 2nd estates. This Revolution continued for 10 years.
