  • "Where have you been?"

  • "The Light... The Light... The Light..."
  • Equality 7-2521 was working in his hidden tunnel during the gathering at the City Theatre. He lost track of time, and was late to to the House of the Street Sweepers. 
  • When he returned to the Home of the Street Sweepers, Equality 7-2521 was questioned about his whereabouts, but refused to give any answers. He was then taken away to the Palace of Corrective Detention. 
  • In the Palace of Corrective Detention, Equality 7-2521 is beaten until he answers the question as to where he had been. He refuses to give up any information, so after he passes out he is brought into a prison cell.
  • In the prison cell, Equality 7-2521 lies on the floor alone for many days. The guards bring him food and water twice a day, and the judges come in once more to ask if he is ready to speak.
  • After a few weeks, Equality 7-2521 attempts to escape. He wants to bring his light box to the World Council of Scholars. Since the doors and locks are old he is able to escape from the cell. Also, there are no guards because no one has ever defied the council before.
  • After returning to his tunnel, Equality 7-2521 finds that his tunnel was undisturbed. He decides that the next day he will bring out his light box and manuscript to the World Council of Scholars.
