Storyboard Text

  • Dramatic Irony
  • Irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.
  • Dramatic Irony Pt. 1
  • As one dead in the bottom of a tomb Either my eyesight fails, or thou look'st pale
  • And trust me, love, in my eye so do you
  • Dramatic Irony Pt. 2
  • Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks
  • Dramatic Irony Pt. 3
  • Of a despised life closed in my breast, By some vile forfeit of untimely death
  • This scene is dramatic irony due to the fact that the audience knows that Romeo and Juliet will soon by dead, although the characters are unaware. They describe each other as already appearing to be dead.
  • Fate
  • The Star-Crossed Lovers
  • When Romeo goes to say his goodbyes to Juliet, he notices she has red cheeks and red lips. This implies that she is still alive, which the audience knows but Romeo does not.
  • Age vs Youth
  • "Young man's love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes" -Friar Lawrence
  • Romeo has a feeling that attending the party will somehow lead to his death. This is dramatic irony because we know that him meeting Juliet at the party will eventually lead to his death.
  • Benvolio
  • Romeo
  • The audience is told in the prologue that Romeo and Juliet will meet their end because it is their fate to take their own lives. Throughout the story, the characters refer to death causally, and do not know of their impending doom.
  • This quote represents Romeos love for Juliet. When he SAW her, he loved her, implying he is in love with her for her looks. This is where we realize that Romeo is still young and doesn't fully understand love.
