Meet Ryan and Jess Johnson, a happy 70 year old couple. Ryan is a retired Army Commander, who now spends his time playing basketball and substitute teaching. Jess is an ex Marine Biologist who now tends to her flowers and cleaning the house. The two of them live happily alone, at the bottom of a hill in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The news channel said a hurricane was on the way to their town, so they went outside to see for themselves.
Their kind neighbor, who noticed the couple in despair, recommended visiting NFIP. The agency was for people who needed disaster relief after a major flood. The agency could provide flood insurance, improve floodplain management, and develop maps of hazard zones for the Johnson couple. Ryan and Jess qualified for this program because of the amount of damage done to their home due to the flood.
This doesn't look too bad
I agree, let's go back in honey
The rain starts to puddle at the bottom of the hill, where the Johnson's live. The house starts to flood.
The flood ruined everything they had worked so hard for.
Oh my goodness! What do I do?
National Flood Insurance Program
Big Ron, the agent from NFIP, visited the home and replaced all of their lost or damaged belongings. The couple decided to take a class and learn what to do in case of another flash flood, and purchase sand bags to prevent the same amount of damage from happening again.
