  • Exposition: The narrator is introduced. He wishes to prove his sanity to the reader despite having kiled a man over his "vulture eye"
  • Falling Action: Soon after the man had killed and the old man, a few police officers arrived. The narrator invited them in an began to chat with them, he began to hear the heart beat again which drove him mad.
  • Conflict: The narrator has a deep hatred for an old man's deformed eye which resembles that of a vulture
  • Rising Action: The narrator would sneak into the old man's house every night for a week and watch him sleep waiting to see the "vulture eye"
  • Climax: The narrator the final day of the week. Had struck, he suffocated the man and then cut off his limbs hiding them in the floor boards
  • Resolution: The narrator was driven mad by the thumping of the heart and admitted to the gruesom crime he commited
