Jessica and her father live in New York in 1997. Jessica is a 17 year old junior in high school. She explores her sexuality and undergoes extreme differences with her father (Joseph) and they both develop clear claims of what they believe is right. Joseph is a religious zealot who follows the bible to the T.
At dinner, Jessica tells her father that she would like for him to meet her significant other.
Without an answer from joseph , the doorbell rings and as far as joseph is concerned, Jessica's best friend Katie is at the door. Katie introduces herself as Jessica's girlfriend and announces that they have been together for 2 years.
Engulfed in anger by his newfound information, Joseph kicks Katie out and starts screaming at jessica over their pizza dinner.
Forced to give up her relationship, jessica explains to her father that love for his daughter should overpower his religion. He argues that she shouldn't follow her ungodly desires but the word of god. He tells her to do so or move out.
After weeks of extensive prayer and pretending to be something she wasn't in order to please her father and maintain a steady place to stay, Jessica embry at the age of 17 committed suicide in the bathroom of her new york brownstone.
