Mary wants an alibi so she goes to store where Sam is and buys more lamb to make it seem like she was at the store buying food for dinner while Patrick was murdered.
Resolution

Mary is trying to offer the detectives the lamb she was making while they are discussing if they should or not.
Mary is very close to being caught by the detective, so she offers the officers something to drink and asks them to help her get rid of the meal that she had been cooking for her husband.
The murder weapon is gone, therefor she isn't caught..
