Junior lives on the Reservation, he is the son of two alcoholics. junior has hydrocephalic which means he was born with water on the brain and is susceptible to seizures. he is regularly beaten up and picked on by almost by everyone. his sole defender is his best friend, a tough guy named Rowdy. Junior is a cartoonist who hates living in poverty and dreams of something better for him self.
In geometry class Junior finds his mom's name written in his textbook, infuriated with the schools lack of resources junior decides to fight back by throwing his book at his teacher Mr.P. he later visits Junior & tells him he deserves better education. Junior leaves the Rez and becomes a "part-time Indian" Junior transfers to a privileged white school. The Rez shun's him out. At Reardan junior punches a joc in his face & wins his respect. Junior joins the basketball team at Reardan.
Junior feels a struggle for a sense of identity. Junior has conflict with Roger Rowdy and people on the Rez who feel he betrayed them. Junior struggles with issues relating to poverty, getting to school, taking Penelope to the dance, having updated textbooks.
