I had my driver's license for six months and me and my friends drove to south haven at night to see huge waves.
Hey, wanna bet?
We drove out because the waves were said to be very tall, and we wanted to see them up close and in person.
The beach was about a hundred yards deep.
are those waves getting bigger?
At first the waves were not breaking across the entire beach. Then the wave height increased.
Hey, the waves seem a bit dangerous right now. Should we leave?
We talked about leaving, but didn’t.
We were there for about a half hour, and the waves were consistent, the waves began to gradually come in bigger and across the beach.
And then the waves flooded the beach and the parking lot we were in. With water swirling around the car and rising, we were one of two cars who made it out of the parking lot. Everyone else was stuck in the water.
At that point we knew we were in trouble.
If they lost their grip, they could've been washed away. The police were there, but unable to reach them due to the high waves.
On the south pier, people got out to see the waves. The people had to hold on to safety lines to stay on the pier. They waited until the waves stopped.
