What if we fail? We can't fail if you start to show some courage. When Duncan is sound asleep, exhausted by the day's journey, I will get his two servants so drunk that they will pass out. They won't remember a thing when they wake. You and I could do anything to Duncan when he's without the protection of his guards! Then, when we're done, we can put all the blame on his unconscious servants.
Okay it's settled, I am completely devoted to committing this crime. Go now and pretend to be a kind hostess and mask the wickedness of what we've planned behind a friendly face.
Once we've used the servants' daggers to kill Duncan and have placed the weapons on them, people will believe they are to blame, right?
Of course they will, and all the while we will be openly grieving over the news of Duncan's death.
Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth exit.
