3 characters with descriptions from the short story 'Singing my Sister Down'.
"It's like a big warm hug up to my legs."
"Don't worry about that. You won't be awake for that."
"No darlin, this is your day only."
"This whole thing is up-ended."
Ikky is very tall, thin and light. She is about 18 years of age and has been put to death by the chief of the village. She is very brave because she says no to being shot instead of having to sink into the tar pit. She is a very nice girl and loves her family a lot and you can tell that as she cheers her brother Felly up by saying the tar feels just like a big warm hug.
Mumma is the mother of Ikky. She is about in her early 50's. She helps while Ikky is sinking into the tar. She is very caring and helpful and this is shown by her having a picnic and feeding Ikky while she is suffering and offering to help Ikky by shooting her instead of her having to sink, even though Ikky refuses and it doesn't end up happening.
Dash is Mumma's son and Ikky's brother. He is around about the age of 8-12. He is very quick and nimble and this is shown in the story using the sentence 'Dash dashed in and planted a quick kiss while she was still upset and would hardly notice'. He also doesn't think that having a party during ones death is appropriate by saying "this whole thing is up-ended."
