And therefore, it is common sense that we Americans separate from Great Britain!
We don't need the King! We need Common Sense!
Have Common Sense
It makes so much sense!
Declaration of Independence
Free from His Tyranny at last!
Because it is only common sense, we the members of the Second Continental Congress formally declare that we ditch King George!
Common Sense was first published by Thomas Paine in January of 1776. It was a forty-seven page essay that attacked the King and urged the colonists that it was time for independence. Paine claimed that it was only common sense that the colonies separate from Great Britain.
Common Sense instantly became a bestseller, both in the colonies and abroad. It was the final push people needed to finally shift their opinions away from Great Britain and instead towards the colonies and their fight for independence.
With this newfound loyalty, the members of the Second Continental Congress passed the Declaration of Independence in July of 1776, just as they were urged to do in Paine's essay.
