The Left Crash
Krupskaya gave Lenin's secret testament to the Central Committee in May 1924. Zinoviev and Kamenev urged that this shouldn't be general knowledge because they thought Stalin posed no threat and they needed his help to defeat Trotsky.
Left Out of the Race
Zinoviev, Kamenev and Stalin now leading party. Trotsky called the party bureaucratic and less democratic. He was defeated in votes because congress was full of 'well-instructed Stalinist delegates'
Right Out of the Race
In 1924, Zinoviev and Kamenev launched a campaign against Trotsky, and Trotsky retaliated by attacking them by criticising them. All while Stalin stayed in the background watching the left wing attack each other.
Stalin made a system 'Socialism in One Country'. It was very popular. Zinoviev and Kamenev attacked Stalin but they lost because Stalin was popular. They joined Trotsky to form a 'United Opposition' but this failed and they all lost their position in the party.
1928, Stalin turned against NEP and attacked the right wing. Bukharin went against him but was outnumbered in votes. Bukharin, Rykov and Tomsky were removed from the Politburo.
