  • What is a writer? Anyone how has the ability to write is known as a writer and it is important for them to know this. It doesn’t matter if the writing is good or not you the student can still be considered a writer because that is the task that has been accomplished. I chose this because Dr. Tracy did a great job with encouraging us to embrace the writers that we are. I feel like we can learn about our students and ourselves through writing and we can use it to track growth.
  • How do we build our writing skill? One of the biggest ways that we will improve our writing is with practice and I know that sounds cliché but it is the most helpful way of improving our writing. Going back to one of the activities that we did at the beginning of the semester I wrote writing is a skill that develops over time. One of the reasons is because we are learning about ourselves as writers but we are also learning about the  different components of writing and learning how to improve.
  • The writing cycle is a messy process, but in the end it is worth it to have a piece that you have poured yourself into. It isn’t as much a cycle as it is a process because you tend to go back and forth between the different phases at the end of the project. Completing all stages of the writing cycle could take some time because like I said this is a crazy process you move on to publishing, which is when you feel that your writing is complete and ready for an audience.
  • The writing workshop is a structured process that allows students to view themselves as writers. The structure consists of three components, the mini lesson, the writing conference and sharing. The writing conference is a good idea to get students to write but also to build the knowledge that they have about writing. Especially since the mini lesson should be connected to the writing, for instance, if a skill is introduced in the mini lesson then that should be what you focus on through out the writing workshop. 
  • Interactions between students and teachers during the writing process are crucial. Laying out the goals that you have for the student is important so they can know what they need to work on in order to improve their writing. It is important that you allow the students to have as much control in the conference as possible. Provide the students with as much positive feedback as you can and when you do suggest something for the student to work on make sure your focus is on one aspect of their writing that they can improve on.
