  • The theme of Old Man and the Sea would be, even if life gets hard to keep fighting and they will come out on top.
  • “The blow hurt not only his hands but his shoulder too. But the shark came up fast with his head out and the old man hit him squarely in the center of his flat-topped head as his nose came out of water and lay against the fish.” (Hemingway,105)
  • While Santiago was fighting with the shark, he injured his arm, however, he didn’t give up. Instead, he kept fighting and luckily, he eventually killed the shark. At the end, he was able to go home and live a happy life.
  • The author's purpose was to entertain, because he happened to use imagery. In narratives, imagery is a technique.
  • The intended audience for this text was older people. This is because the boat symbolizes older people, as it is an older boat.
