In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He hit land that was then known as the new world. He wanted to go to West Asia but he thought he landed in India.
Ahoy! our voyage has led us to new land!
Columbus stumbled upon some Native Americans and didn't want them on the land.
Columbus claimed the land for Spain and traded with the Native Americans fo gold.
Would you happen to have any more gold?
Columbus went on a search for gold and landed somewhere on an island close to Mexico. He left his men and crew there and promised to come back but, he sailed back to Spain and took all the fame and glory.
The Spanish king wanted more gold than Columbus had brought back so he sent him back out to sea.
