  • Imagery
  • This is when the narrator was going to show everyone that he taught Doodle to walk on his own. Everyone was so excited and they were crying and then the narrator started crying because he said he did this for himself not for Doodle.
  • Theme
  • The casket is a symbol for death. Doodle's parents had this made because they didn't think Doodle was going to live. This represents what was supposed to happen to Doodle so it connects him with death.
  • Dynamic Character
  • It talks about the trees bleeding and how summer was dead but autumn hadn't been born yet. So this is saying that it probably September and all the trees are changing colors.
  • Personal Reaction
  • I think the theme is to never give up. In the story Doodle said that he couldn't walk and the narrator asked him if he wanted to learn how and Doodle replied with yes, so the narrator told Doodle that he could but he had to try.
  • The narrator is the dynamic character. At the beginning of the story he didn't want anything to do with Doodle and he was embarrassed to be seen with him. As the story goes on he starts to do stuff with him and he starts to think of him as a "brother" and he doesn't think he's useless.
  • I think that this story was a good way to explain the relationships between siblings that have disabilities and it shows how they feel about it. I think that it was sad that Doodle died because the narrator kept pushing him and wanted him to change. It shows that some people are very selfish and don't really care about others or they do but they just want them to be perfect.
