  • Approximately 350,000 women joined the armed forces in WWII. They worked as nurses, repaired airplanes and drove trucks. 
  • How WWII Helped End The Great Depression
  • At home many women took over men's jobs in factories and offices to help support their families This changed the stereotype of women staying home and not working. 
  • How the Government took control over the economy during WWII
  • Minorities also served in WWII, they were equally drafted and equally paid. Approximately 33000 Japanese-Americans, 20000 Chinese Americans, 25000 American Indians, 16000 Filipino-Americans, 65000 Puerto Ricans, 500,000 Mexican-Americans served in WWII.
  • How the Government took control over the economy during WWII
  • During WWII 17 million new jobs were created. This helped Americans get back on their feet and end the Great Depression. 
  • Since the government was creating new jobs and paying employees well saving put in banks were also increased. This allowed the government to circulate more money.
  • Community Bank
  • The government also bought 1/2 of all the good produced by the Americans. This allowed them to control prices for necessary items. They also sold  war bonds and racioned goods.
