Storyboard Text

  • Frederick Douglass was a slave, he had been bought out by to the Aulds family.  Thomas Auld the master, Mrs.Auld the wife and 1 son. The main purpose the Aulds needed Frederick’s help  was to take care of their young son. Mr.Auld had realized Frederick learned to read and has a spirit to disobey and later decided to send Fredrick to the well known slave breaker Mr.Covey.  Mr.Covey had a plantation in Baltimore. Covey hurt and mistreated often treating them as property not people. Frederick was worked and treated unfairly more than most slaves.
  • It was January 1st Fredericks first day working on the plantation.  Mr.Covey's eyes as fierce as a lion staring out into the open field.  Mr.Covey knew how strong and determined Frederick was, so he often targeted him to do the hard work.  Covey watched him like a hawk, working him as hard as he possibly could. “Sir i have worked long and hard for you getting all my work done i am exhausted and need rest.” “Oh hush, i have say if you stop working and if you get to rest.” “But sir” “Save it” Frederick slowly starts feeling dizzy and calls for his fellow slaves.  As soon as they appear Douglass collapses. Covey runs over and tells Fredrick to get up.  Covey starts beating Frederick when he refuses to get up.
  • Frederick had felt so mistreated by Covey, he decided to get some fresh air for a day or two.  Frederick had seen a figure walking around in the woods that somewhat looked like a man, Frederick ran towards it.  Frederick tapped the man's shoulder. “Hello in Frederick Douglass” “Hello there Frederick, im Sandy, what would you be out in the woods for?” “I am from Covey's plantation, i was beaten for collapsing on the ground from exhaustion.” “Covey's farm oh goodness, i'm a runaway slave from the south living up here in baltimore now.”  “ Hey Douglass you should come and stay with me in my wife, and there you could get some good rest.”   “Oh i don't mean to intrude” “Of course not your always welcome”
