Storyboard Text

  • This is so pretty. Thanks, photosynthesis!
  • Photo... what?
  • Photosynthesis. It is a process that converts sunlight, water and CO2 into glucose, or sugar, and oxygen.
  • Oh, I think I get it. So the sunlight is absorbed from chlorophyll in the chloroplasts or whatever its called, right?
  • Yes, good job! Then water is absorbed through the roots of a plant.
  • Okay... So does that mean because sunlight is absorbed, it will allow CO2 to go into the stomata?
  • So... after water, CO2 and sunlight is absorbed, they go through the light dependant reaction. This converts the suns energy into chemical energy. (ATP and NADPH)
  • OMG! I get it now. This is when the Calvin Cycle (in the stroma), uses ATP and NADPH to make glucose. ATP donates energy to make ADP!
  • You got it! This is fun!
  • After that, Hydrogen from light reaction and C and O2 make glucose = C6H12O6. H2O is then released, which is transpiration.
  • Got it! But I have one more question... What is a thylakoid?
  • So, photosynthesis happens in a chloroplast, and thylakoids are sac-like photosynthetic membranes inside.
  • Thank you so much. I appreciate nature so much more, its so much work. See you later!
