Dengue Fever A Viral Infection
What is Dengue Fever?: There are four types of Dengue Fever, which is viral infection transmitted by tropical mosquitos from the genus Aedes.
Symptoms •Fever as high as 106 •Headaches •Muscle, bone and joint pain • Pain behind the eyes •Bleeding from nose or mouth • Severe abdominal pain •Persistent vomiting
Treatment There is no specific treatment for Dengue Fever. However taking pain relievers such as acetaminophen is recommended Do not take •Ibuprofen •Naproxen •Aspirin
Statistics •2.5 billion people, or two-fifths of the world's population, are now at risk from dengue •Dengue fever is most common in Southeast Asia and the western Pacific island •Dengue fever is the leading cause of death in the tropics and subtropics
Aedes aegypti Mosquito •Only the female mosquito bites for blood •The mosquito is attracted to chemical compounds emitted by mammals such as ammonia, carbon dioxide, and lactic acid •Can be recognized by white markings on its legs and lyre on its upper thorax (Insert Pictures)
