  • I wonder what all of this means?
  •
  • In this part of the scene, Arthur leaves to begin his probation hours.  Rather than going to jail, Arthur works for an odd man that collects items on the streets, known as the "Junk Man." This is significant to the story because the reader, and Arthur have no idea what to expect. The fact that Arthur doesn't wear a coat, drives the point home that he has no idea what he's in for.
  • After Arthur struggles to find the location, he resorts to asking for help. In this run down neighborhood, the nearest place he could go to was a tattoo shop. Through this all, Arthur is freezing cold in the winter weather. This detail gives an image to the reader of what the setting would be like in this scene.
  • Arthur reaches the location he was instructed to walk to, and upon his arrival he finds a note from the "Junk Man," assigning him to his assignment for the day, which was to collect every item on the list. The "Junk Man" was no where to be found, just the note he left behind. This causes suspicion.
