12 year old Florence Crutchfield arrives at her uncle's manor house after getting out of an orphanage. She is greeted by her rude, grumpy, aunt, and then by her kind uncle. Florence was also told that there was a boy who was her cousin too, but was not allowed to meet him as her Aunt said he was sick for life.
Her uncle shows Florence her room. However, her Aunt just keeps comparing her to her cousin, Sophia Crutchfield who died 1 year ago, and keeps repeating how Sophia is so much better than poor Florence.
Day after day, Florence eats dinner downstairs and goes up to her room, repeating the same boring routine every, single day. However, she always feels that someone is following her. This is because she keeps hearing a voice saying, "Florence, Florence, come be my friend."
One day, when Florence was creeping in attic when she was not allowed to, she saw the girl who was following her all along. It was the ghost of her Aunts beloved Sophia who died one year ago! What Sophia wanted was to just be Florence's friend, but Florence rejected her as Sophia's ghost was freaking her out. Since Florence rejected Sophia's friend offer, Sophia decided to posses her.
Sophia then proceeded to make Florence to go to her brother's room and scare him. This is because Sophia's brother accidentally killed her so she wants to recreate his death in which he dies. Florence had no choice but to do this to Sophia's brother.
In the end, it's fate that Sophia must die, so Florence and Sophia's brother finally push Sophia off the roof where she dies the second time. Finally, Sophia's brother is safe from his evil sister and Florence won't be harassed anymore.
