Hello! I am Axle Stroth, I am in Hour 3 and this is about how and why evolution has caused there to be more female sea turtles species than male sea turtles species!
evolution: basically how living things change and adapt over time.Species: a group of living organisms that are related to each other in some way.
First, There's genetic variations. the variations found in sea turtles is that there are way more females than males. the reason this is happening is due to selective pressure.
genetic variation: diversities in gene frequenciesselective pressure: any reason for a living organism to have an advantage or disadvantage in survival
The selective pressure here is the temperature changing because of global warming. that's because there is a temp. threshold for sea turtles and above that temp the egg will be female and below that temp. the egg will be male. so due to natural selection, there are less males.
natural selection: the whole reason evolution causes things to change to adapt to its environment.
Experts say that if this trend continues, sea turtles might not be able to recover from this because they wont be fit enough to survive, however this is only a speculation so they could recover from this.
fitness: how fit something is or how likely it is to survive out in the world, the less fit the less likely to survive and the more fit the more likely to survive.
a few ways evolution can help sea turtles come back from this is by over time the temperature threshold for males and females to both be raised so it has to be even hotter for females to be born and then more males can also be born!
That is the end of my storyboard about sea turtles populations!
