The king and Polonius hide behind the tapestry, as Ophelia approaches Hamlet she has been ordered to profess her love to him. Hamlet denounces her love and tells her that he never loved her and that all women are evil and deceitful.
As Hamlet walks off the king and Polonius discuss what they think of Hamlet's behavior. The king suggest that it is not his love for Ophelia that is driving him mad. He believes that something else is at play here and that Hamlet should be sent to England to help clear his mind.
