Castle Cranshaw, also known as Ghost, has always been good at running ever since the night his father had become drunk and tried to shoot him and his mother. Ghost enjoys sunflower seeds which he gets everyday and a store of someone named Mr. Charles.
The protagonist of the story is Ghost, who's real name is Castle Cranshaw, and he is a kid who lives with his mother in Glass Manor, a really poor neighborhood, and he is a naturally quick runner who is on the track team. He also has bad history with his father trying to shoot him and his mother.
Brandon Simmons is the antagonist of the story because he is the reason for his altercations. He is the reason he had to call his coach and call him his uncle because if he called his mother he would have been kicked off the track team.
The internal conflict is the memory of his dad becoming drunk and trying to shoot him and his mother. The conflict about that is that Ghost doesn't know whether he hates his father or he loves his father. This all affects how Ghost acts normally in his day to day life.
The external conflict is Ghost trying to stay on the track team. If he gets one bad grade or he gets into an altercation at school his mother would take him off the track team.
The rising action of this story is when Ghost starts to beat up Brandon Simmons and starts punch him. He started doing that because of him making fun of him for living in a poor place and his mom's job and basically every aspect of his life.
