The Vietnam War: from a S. Vietnamese boy
Báo was born a few years before the Vietnam War began. He grew up as it escalated, and was forced to join the Southern Vietnamese militia at a very young age. Through out the time he carried around his fathers comb and the ring his mother gave him.
Bao didn't really understand or like the things he learned and was taught to do but he knew in order to gain freedom he had to fight for it.
As he grew into an adult, it was decided that he would stay behind and watch over prisoners. He hated this job, and wished he could fight instead, alongside the Americans, to gain his freedom on his own.
After being in the militia and watching over the prisoners he decide to break away from all that. He knew that he didn't want to that his whole life or heck do it at all. So he than began to fight again. He ended entering the war where the Tet offensive was going to take place . with him to the war he took a comb that his fathered used and ring that his mother gave to him. To remember hes doing it for his people.
Báo is now an older man, and the war is over. He continues to have recurring nightmares about the war and everything he has witnessed. He really wishes he could have done more to end Communism, and continues to work from home to do so.
He ended up getting married to a women named Yen. They had two kids together. They had a boy and a girl.Fighting in the war was tough for him and its till hard to cope with now. Now that's its over hes able to be his beautiful family and live the rest of his life with taking care of them and he still regrets that he feels he could of done more.
