I always have felt badly because us blacks were not treated fairly. We should have been free and given the same opportunities others had.
It felt like we should have the same rights as others , but in the South there was legally enforced segregation. A lot of people wasn't willing to disobey the rules, but I was willing to go to jail.
When i was little I couldn't understand why we were treated differently, but when I learned , I didn't feel very good about it.
i dont feel well about the people who treated us unfairly.
I was born 50 years after slavery and I was allowed to read, my mom was my teacher.
I encourage kids to stay in school , get good grades, and believe in themselves
