Japans leader wanted to control raw materials in other countries. Their first move was to invade Chinese province of Manchuria and set Pu Yi as a puppet Emperor Japan would control. Japan attacked China in 1937
Japan invaded Indochina (Vietnam) in 1940 and forced its government to give Japan control over Indochina's raw materials. Due to Japans action US president reduced Japans oil supplies by 93%.
1941 British General stopped in ottawa on his way back to Britain from Hong Kong.
Harry, we need help to defend Hong Kong. Can Canada send some troops there? Japs will run off hahaha they can't fight white soldiers in a fight.
December 8, 1941 Japanese bombers began their attack on Hong Kong's air force.

As the Canadians made their way through Kowloon to Hong Kong Island. Lawson tried to gather information about Japanese military. Canada had no spies of its own.
Japanese wanted Hong Kong's surrender, Sir Mark Aitchson Young, but Hong Kong's governor refused to give up. While the Canadians were forced to retreat.
Lawson died so bravely that even the Japanese were impressed.
Osborn threw several grenades at the Japanese and jumped in front of a grenade to save his soldiers.
