Storyboard Text

  • Before British power had conquered india, India was considered as the second largest economy in the world.
  • We have to stay in power!!!
  • At first British only control over bengal, bihar, Orissa, Madras and Bombay due to trading purposes. However, they faced many oppositions from others such as the Marathas, Sikhs. In order to stay paramount, they had to go on war with them.
  • Many wars happened due to the conflict between the British power and the opposition in India. The one of the most difficult opposition was Mysore, due to Leader Haider Ali, that took 4 wars for British to stop the opposition when the son of Haider Ali, Tipu sultan died in 1799.
  • There were a lot of negative effects on India. They have loss of money, Britain ruined India's previous economy and industries, they were forced to share their goods, India soon become dependent of Britain due to the colonization, famine, while Britain controlling the government, it didn't allow native people to be part of politics. There were also a lot of racism.
  • 1857 Mutiny of the Indian Army at Barrackpore. The Rebellion becomes a War of Independence First Indian War of Independence. 1858: Bahadur Shah Zafar, the Last Mogul, is proclaimed as Emperor. The Mutiny is crushed and the Last Mogul Emperor is disposed. The Revolt is crushed ruthlessly. End of the EIC's rule in India. End of Mogul rule in India. British Crown takes over India, beginning of the Raj.
  • 1939: World War II breaks out with Germany's invasion of Poland. 1947: India and Pakistan become self-governing.
