The Avenenum are medium sized birds with poisonous tail spikes that nest in large groups. In their original habitat, they were an aquamarine color, females had long skinny beaks and males had short strong ones and as well as an underbelly that looked like the large eyes of a predator. They fed on fruit, nuts, and bugs.
But, after a devastating drought and wildfire, much of the land changed or was destroyed. Some of the Avenenum lost their sight due to the smoke, and when they mated, passed it along to their children. In addition, the male population increased dramatically, leaving many of them without a mate.
