To protect Assyrian lands, Assyrian rulers built a powerful army to control neighboring lands.
Assyrians fought fiercely on foot, horseback, and with chariots.
The Assyrians used iron weapons and attacked city walls with battering rams.
They also used ladders to scale city walls and dug tunnels under the walls to get in.
Enemies who surrender were allowed to choose a leader. Those who refused to surrender were taken captive.
The captives were killed or turned into slaves. Assyrians speared enemy leaders and burned down cities.
