  • Plymouth Colony, America's first permanent Puritan settlement was established by English Separatist Puritans in December. The Pilgrims left England to seek religious freedom or simply to find a better life.
  • Separatists, who had left the Church of England, had beenpersecuted for their religious beliefs. Early in the1600’s, many of those that had refused to join thechurch of England had moved to Holland, aneighboring country in Europe.
  • Roger William had been banished from the Massachusetts colony for his advocacy of religious tolerance and the separation of church and state.
  • Settlers moved to new hampshire because it was a fishing colony and for religious freedom from the puritans.
  • The pilgrims first came to the Wampanoag land not knowing how to plant food so they had to steal food from the Wampanoag group. But the Wampanoag helped them grow crops and use fish as fertilizer.
